Lets Create | Acrylic Painting to Mixed Media

Unleash your creative energy with Q Gallery in this 12 week beginners art program. ‘Lets Create’ is a hands on art experinece which guides the individual through creative experimentation and fosters artistic growth. Each week study some of the different forms of visual art media such as acrylic painting, watercolour painting, drawing, ink, print making, collage, cardboard construction, stencil art and mixed media.

Whether you're picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to try something new, who knew art could be so much fun?! We did of course!

DATES: Saturdays from September 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, October 4th, 11th, (break on the18th of October) back the 25th, November 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.

TIME: 3PM - 6PM.

WHERE: Q Gallery, 1/13 Edgar St, Ainslie Shops.

COST: $80 per class, $480 for 6 weeks, $880 for 12 weeks.

SHOWCASE: Student showcase on Friday December 12th.

PROGRAM:

September 6th Welcome to Let’s Create! Today we will focus on drawing with Graphite and coloured pencils. We will begin with three10 minute warm up exercises- blind contour drawing, continuous line drawing, and weak hand drawing. Become acquainted with graphite pencils, understand lead grades, and draw natural and manufactured objects using various techniques including, hatching, crosshatching, stippling, scumbling, and smudging.

September 13th This week we will be drawing a still life using mixed drawing media including pencils, pastels, and markers.

September 20th Working with ink and brush, we will be creating a drawing

inspired by stained glass. The theme of the artwork, ‘Who am I?’

September 27th This week our objective is value and form. Painting in acrylics, we will study a famous painting, observing the application of value, colour, and form. We will attempt to recreate the essence of the painting without the added noise, e.g. the detail.

October 4th Cardboard construction- create a 3D artwork using cardboard, glue, and your imagination. Exploring cubism, we will aim to reproduce a three-dimensional copy of a famous cubist masterpiece.

October 11th Cardboard construction- complete your 3D cubist art pieces. Apply colour and pattern to your artworks using acrylic paint.

October 25th An introduction to watercolour Painting – flower study Learn how to mount, mask, and work with watercolour paints.

November 1st Collage/ mixed media - the journey This week we will explore the idea of the Journey using symbolic imagery. Cut, paste, paint, and draw your interpretation of the journey, whether it be a literal representation or a spiritual one.

November 8th Print making- the seasons Create your very own block print inspired by one of the four seasons. Draw your design and carve it into a vinyl block.

November 15th Print making - finish carving your design and print it.

November 22nd Stencil art - Canberra Create your very own stencil inspired by your city,

Canberra. Work with gel and impasto medium and acrylic paint.

November 29th Mixed media – 2025 For our last class of Let’s create, we will be combining

some or all the media we explored over the past 12 weeks. As we are only one month away from the new year, this artwork will be reflective of 2025. What memories will you take away from the year?
